Post-election blues

So we are now ruled by a conservative yokel...wow...oh well I threw away my vote (ie: they handed it to me and I spoiled it completely)! Before you start ramming rhetoric down my throat (or up my ass depending on your preferences) let me explain. So I've been following elections in the media since I was about 10 years old because I come from a loooooong line of liberals and frankly I'm fed up with a few things in Canadian politics. First and foremost, I'm sick and tired of parties making campaign promises that they never follow through on (re: dalton mcguinty a few years ago), or if they do follow through on it it takes a fuckload of time (re: subsidized daycare promise the liberals made in '93). Secondly I'm sick of our first past the post system....why is it that if 14 000 people in my riding vote for NDP and 14 001 vote liberal, all those 14 000 votes don't count. What does that say for democracy?!?!? "Every vote counts" does not apply to Canadian politics!

So here is how the election turned out in our first past the post system:

Conservative: 124 seats (36.3% pop. vote)
Liberal: 103 seats (30.2%)
NDP: 29 seats (17.5%)
BLOC: 51 seats (42% pop. vote in QC)
Green: 0 seats (4.5% pop. vote)

Here's how it would be in the proportional representation:

Conservative: 112 seats (36.3%)
Liberal: 93 seats (30.2%)
NDP: 54 seats (17.5%)
BLOC: 31 seats (42% pop. vote in QC)
Green: 14 seats (4.5%)
Others: 4 seats (I dunno how many votes)
